Volunteer Charity Treasurer needed.
A treasurer will be tasked with banking, book-keeping and record-keeping. They are also responsible for making sure the accounts are official. That doesn’t mean a treasurer must be an accountant, but it is their duty to make sure the finances are audited by professionals annually.
What will you be doing?
* Paying invoices for the Charity using Online Business Banking. * Overseeing the reconciliation of income and expenditure. * Producing monthly reports for trustee meetings. * Preparing the accounts each year for external audit. * Providing overall financial direction for the charity. * Participating actively in meetings once a month) and taking an active role in the governance of the Charity. * Keeping detailed records of all income and expenditure. * Banking and recording of all cash income. * Checking invoices against vet codes.
Required Skills
* A working knowledge of excel.
* Strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of Online banking.
Training and support: –
Training and assistance will be given by the outgoing Treasurer. Work is Computer based and you can work from home at your convenience. As the role can be performed remotely, and most meetings are face to face once a month with occasional online meetings.
This role provides an excellent insight into the running of a local charity and is a brilliant opportunity to develop new skills and put existing skills to great use. There are also opportunities to become involved with the animals and see how what you do makes a real difference to their lives and future.

Basic rules for dealing with money
Each group may deal with its money in a slightly different way depending on circumstances. But there are basic rules for dealing with money which apply to everyone.
- Be methodical. Keep a clear record every time you receive or pay out money. Do not rely on memory to write it up later. Clear records will help you to keep track of money and ensure that, for example, you have collected all the subs or have not paid a bill twice.
- Make sure that you have paperwork for any money which you taken in our out.
- Keep paperwork in number or date order. This is done via Excel.
- Keep the group’s cash separate from your own.
- Do not hold on to large amounts of cash; bank it as soon as possible.
- Check regularly that the cash in your tin equals the balance in your cash records, and that the bank balance equals the balance in your bank records.
- It is sensible to have at least three signatories to your bank or building society account. Make sure that two people are required to sign a cheque, withdraw cash, or make a payment by BACS or debit card.
- Never sign a blank cheque or ask another signatory to sign a blank cheque for you to write later.
- Check bank statements carefully.
- Give regular reports to committee.
- If you receive money from funder, check their terms and conditions carefully – they may have rules about how their money is spent and handled.
